Hi all,

Anyone else out there move Jira from server to cloud, with a large elaborate structure?

Does Atlassian allow a free POC (Proof Of Concept) for the cloud?

Also to renew a license in Jira Software Server it is 1/2 the price of buying it new.  Is that true for the cloud?  How about for moving to the cloud?

Thanks,

Robert

Hello,

You can use a trial instance. It will be free for 7 days, after that you will have to pay for the Cloud instance. But by my experience you will have another 14 days until the Cloud instance becomes unavailable.

In Jira Cloud you always pay full price for licenses.

Thanks.  Also we have attachments that are 125G.  I know there is a 250G limit but was wondering what the transfer time is to move the attachments to the cloud?  If it is a multi-day process that would really cut into the 7 (possibly up to 21) days.

Hello,

It all depends on your upload speed. Let's say your upload speed is 50Mb per second, then you will upload attachments for 1 hours. Then it will take another 2 hours (approximately) for Atlassian to upload it.

Hi Robert,

Maren here from Atlassian. Just wanted to weigh in with a bit more color for each of your questions.

1. Does Atlassian allow a free POC (Proof Of Concept) for the cloud?

As Alexey mentioned, you can sign up for a free cloud trial site. Atlassian offers fully functional evaluations of our cloud products for a period of 7 days, which can be extended to a maximum of 37 days upon request by contacting support.

Don't worry if you have multiple cloud evaluations simultaneously. Once you've completed your production migration, you can let your trial site lapse (in the case of a staging site) or convert to a paid site if it's your live site. Apps can also be trialed for 30 days, as can Atlassian Access.

There are a few other ways to set up a cloud testing environment, which you can learn about here.

2. Also to renew a license in Jira Software Server it is 1/2 the price of buying it new. Is that true for the cloud? How about for moving to the cloud?

Cloud is offered at monthly or annual subscription pricing, so as another person mentioned the server licensing model (buy once then pay for maintenance over time) doesn't apply.

3. Also, we have attachments that are 125G. I know there is a 250G limit but was wondering what the transfer time is to move the attachments to the cloud? If it is a multi-day process that would really cut into the 7 (possibly up to 21) days.

The best way to know for sure is to run a test migration. This should give you a good time estimate for how long this step will take.

If you don't want to import all 125 GB, you can try splitting up your attachments and testing with only part of them, then extrapolate from there to get the full time estimate.

I hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi, @Robert G. Nadon.  There are a number of posts similar to yours here on the community. You might want to try posting in one or more of those threads to see if the original authors will give you some feedback.

Here's an example: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/JIRA-Migrating-from-Server-to-Cloud/qaq-p/648995

Hope this helps,

P.S.  FYI...  Structure for Jira, which, if I remember correctly, you have looked at in the past, is available for Jira Cloud. However, just like Jira Cloud is different than Jira Server/Data Center, Structure Cloud is different than the version you looked at.
