After upgrading to the latest Z4J version (2.5) We are no longer able to delete test steps. We have tried reindexing both JIRA and Zephyr with no luck? Is anyone else having this issue?
Hi Chris,
In Zephyr for JIRA 2.5, Zephyr for JIRA changed permissions on how people can delete Steps in test issues. See attached screenshot on what the error looks like.
This permission is now controlled by the Project Permission -> Delete Issue. If the user is part of the group that has this permission, they can delete steps in addition to other items. If their group is not part of this project permission, they will get the error mentioned above. Administrators are usually the only groups in this permission set by default.
Regards,
Daniel
If you want to give separate permissions for deleting steps that is fine, but don't link it with deleting issues. Now we have to give permissions to all users who use zypher to be able to delete issues... bad move

This solved our problem as well.Thank you for your help!
However i want to agree with Oscar and state that linking this to the delete issue permission is bad practice.

Thanks for the response and resolution on this.
I'll ditto the two previous comments. Individual test step delete permissions are one thing, but extending rights to include overall 'issue' deletion = not a good idea.

I agree. I can't give my QA people admin permissions (delete issue) just so that they can delete test steps.

I also agree, this is a terrible way to handle permissions. We can't give our QA team permission to delete issues just so they can manage their test steps.
Please, please find a way to use a separate permission value so we can let our QA engineers delete test steps without having to give them permission to delete actual Jira issues.

Hi,
I am facing an issue for deleting test steps. Test steps (neither single nor multiple) are not getting deleted from my tests. Nothing happens on selecting the delete option. In console, error is getting displayed on clicking the delete option as attached. PFA.
I have the Admin rights (which includes editing and deleting rights for an issue).
Can anyone please help me in order to get this issue resolved, so that I would be able to delete the test steps not needed?
Looking forward for your reply.

Fraser Colmer,
Thanks for your reply. This is to bring to your notice that I am unable to login/sign up to Zephyr and submit the ticket. Therefore unable to get in touch with Team Zephyr's support staff. It is showing me a blank page and an error in console. PFA.
Can someone please help me out and get the issue resolved?
Looking forward for the reply.

Hello @Khushboo
Looks like something might be related to your browser cache/cookies as he support site if fully operational. I would suggest you to clear the browser cache or try any other browser and create a case with us. We will be happy to assist you in further troubleshooting.
Best Regards,
Bibek

Thank you for the reply. I tried clearing cache in my default browser which is Chrome 66, but nothing worked on it.
I tried checking it on Firefox browser and it worked there.
But I really wonder that why Zephyr is not working well with the latest version of Chrome? The whole support website has issues in it. User can neither sign up/sign in nor they can add tickets to the website.
I would suggest to make it workable for all the latest browsers.

Hi Khushboo
Can you provide your email id and I will contact you directly via email? The reason is we are using our support portal as well as Zephyr for Jira in the latest Chrome browsers without any issue and even we don't see any other customers reporting it.
So we will definitely like to meet you via a screen share and troubleshoot this further
I tried to fetch the email id from the marketplace but am not able to locate your email id?
Thanks

Bibek, thank you. I've tested 2.5.1 and 'delete test step' works as expected.
Would have loved to have seen a sentence or two explaining this fix in the 2.5.1 Release Notes! Then we could have addressed this problem back in August.

Hi S Stack,
In 2.5.1 the user who has edit issue permission can modify the test case (edit/delete test steps).Delete issue permission is no more mandatory to delete the test steps what was earlier implemented in 2.5 and proved to be inconvenient to some of the teams. In 2.5.1 the permission schema is again switched back to what it was earlier.
Thanks and Regards,
Bibek

I just tested this and it does work for us… JIRA v6.2.2. (Edit Permission is the only permission needed , not delete)
Thank YOU!

@Bibek, can you explain please how this issue was solved in 2.5.1? Specifically, what change was made in 2.5.1 – what permissions are now required for deleting a test step?

Hello All,
This issue has been fixed under our latest release of Zephyr For JIRA 2.5.1 which was launched on 08-12-2014.
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.thed.zephyr.je/versions
This version is supported with JIRA 5.2 - 6.3.5. Update to the latest version will resolve this issue of deleting the test steps permission.
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Bibek

Ideally it's own permisson, however "Edit" is more suitable, definetly not "Delete" issue.

Just caught this thread.
As an admin to our Jira application. I would prefer that Issues and its control are treated seperatley to the control of test steps.
Ideally Test Steps should have its own set of permissions as per an issue.
This woudl allow for better control and flexability.
Thanks

Nice point, G3, and worth sharing with the team.
On another note, Zephyr has expressed a willingness to release a patch. They asked if delete test step should be handled by a user- or group-based right. My response was to tie this back to "Edit Issue" permission.
May I ask if others might post their ideas here?

I agree with tieing it back to the "Edit Issue" permission, I really don't see any point in having a special permission to simply delete a Test step.

A non-privileged user (lacking 'Delete Issue' rights) can edit/empty all of a step's fields. This leaves ugly clutter but provides a workaround of sorts.

... Adding to your workaround insight...
We also initially realized the ability to still edit/empty step fields.
My instruction to testers was to drag those empty test steps to the top/bottom of the script (execution string)... so at least they were all compiled in one spot for deletion.
This will cut down on the inline script clutter you mentioned.

Please add us as another organisation that is affected and frustrated at this change.
It is absolutely ridiculous to expect organisations to give non admin users permission to delete Issues just so they can delete a Test Step.
I sincerely hope you reconsider this change, or at least provide the option of disabling the check. I, or any of our admins, do not have the time run around after my Test Analysts deleting Test Steps for them as there is no way I will be able to get permission to allow them to have "Delete Issue" permissions.

Phil Baird

Same here, we'll be downgrading. I do not want to give global "delete issue" permissions to my testers!

We're also affected by the new behavior and completely agree with previous posts: Requiring "Delete Issue" permission to merely delete a test step is an unwanted side effect of the upgrade to 2.5.
Sadly, we are considering downgrading.

1) SQL Server 2012
2) 6.1.5
3) I'll see if I can have one of my team record that this morning.
Thanks!

Hello Chris,
We need some additional information to resolve this issue.Could you please provide the below information:
1)Which database you are using?
2)Which JIRA version you are using?
3)Could you please record the whole session so that we can be on the same page regarding the issue you are facing.
You can use Webex player for the same.
