Structured sorted by rank doesn't match backlog

We are using JIRA Server 7.3. 

I have a structure using a sort generator to sort by "Rank." My understanding is that this will display the issues in the order in which they appear in the Agile board's backlog. That isn't what I'm getting. 

For example, right now I have multiple issues appearing between issues in Sprint 3 and Sprint 4. Those issues are not assigned to a sprint, so their rank shouldn't be higher than issues assigned to a sprint. 

What should I be doing?

Are you still looking for assistance? If so, can you confirm how you are building your structure? Are issues manually added or Inserted? Also, can you confirm which version of Structure you are using?
