Can someone explain to me why there are 5 different User Interfaces for filtering in Jira and why this has not been resolved as part of the new navigation. You get different filtering UIs for work items depending on whether you're in:
- Board / Backlog (with a variation in Timeline)
- List view
- Calendar view (variation on Issue search view)
- Issue search (Basic and JQL)
It is by far the most maddening thing every. Not only are the filtering UIs different, the capabilities are different.
- You can't filter by "Not Equal To" or "Not In" except in issue search
- You can't filter on all fields in some views (Board, Backlog, List)
- You can only create quick filters for Board, Backlog
This has to be a super high priority to resolve, with a single consistent filtering interface that is a superset of the functionality of all of them
And when I use the Search bar at the top, if I use JQL there, it gives me useless search results and then turns my JQL into a textfields search.
Hi @Sanjay Samani 👋
Amira here — I’m a Senior Product Manager on the Jira team.
Thanks so much for taking the time to flag this. We completely understand that having multiple filtering experiences in Jira can be confusing, and you're not alone in feeling that way.
The good news is that our team is currently working on improving the filter component and making the experience more consistent across Jira. If you're interested in hearing more about our plans or sharing your perspective, I’d love to chat. Feel free to use this link to book a time that works for you.
Thanks again, and I really appreciate your feedback!
Best,
Amira Badran
See, I'm team "please don't" unless the change is to let me use JQL ev-er-y-where.
I HATE the collapsing (like Lists) in the Filter ("All Work") view.
Yes, I agree, that left nav collapsing list is annoying and takes LONGER to get to things.
And I'm on team 100% every search field should allow me to use jql AND free text search.
I do like the items rolling up to their Epics in the List and Timeline, though.
My 2c - the "different filters" you're talking about, @Sanjay Samani are different because they're for different people - different use cases. Scope makes a difference!
My devs who work mainly in one or two projects at the time LOVE the List view.
My Ops team, who are on 5 or 12 or all (many dozens) of our projects like the Filters or All Work views.
