How do I fix this error

martinapps September 27, 2018

When I start up my copy of SourceTree, I get a dialog with this message:

"Error during the update process
Remote release File is empty or corrupted"

I assume that an update was downloaded to be applied on startup. So what do I do the correct this problem?

Additional info:

I was having the same issue with 2.0.20.1 on Windows 10.

I have updated my package using the link Ana provided, updating version by version. The error did not stop on SourceTree load until I installed 2.2.4.0.

I continued to update through to 2.5.5.0. I did not get the error when loading any version 2.2.4.0 or higher, however, I can still get the error if I go to Tools->Options->Updates->Check For Updates.

The 'Check For Updates' button disables a few moments after loading without any additional error, but if I try to check for updates before the button is disabled I do get the same error.

I stopped with 2.5.5.0 because 2.6.9.0 does not allow me to open my local repos. It sees them, but its not reading the changes like all the other versions do, and won't let me open them.

Everything else seems to be working fine, and the error seems to be more of an annoyance than anything. Though, this error may be the reason why I was still running 2.0.20.1 when SourceTree is set for auto update.

Wow, thanks for the detailed update @Chad McEndree! I'll pass this message to our developers, in the meantime please keep enjoying Sourcetree and let us know if you encounter any issues.

Have a great day,

Ana

2.1.10 affected here for me, on both home and work machines. Both affected right around the same time.

Happy to help :) I'm still having the same issue with 2.5.5.0 I laid out above, but no other issues thus far that I know of. I may try to install the newest version again in the near future, but for now all is good enough.

I get the same issues in 2.1.10. Anytime i open the tool and it checks for Updates it errors with Remote release File is empty or corrupted.  It appears the error has something to do with the Check For Updates button (action)

Thanks for the reply. As of yesterday the error disappeared without any action by me. I am running version 2.1.10.0. All is good.

Hi Bruce! Can you try updating Sourcetree? You can download it from the download archives. Please execute the installer and start Sourcetree normally afterwards, let us know if the error disappears!

Best regards,

Ana
