Sourcetree is the last application I need to run native on Linux to be able to switch my development environment entirely from Windows to Linux. So please Atlassian, at least give us hope.

@Bogdan Hlevca You are probably right, but I've tried switching jre versions with no luck. Syntevo's site is lacking in terms of forum support, and I've given up. My java runtime can't be completely hosed, because the program does run, it just doesn't display the menu bar.

@Richard von Lehe " Essentially it's crippled right from the install. " It is possible that your java environment is crippled, there are no problems with the application itself. In addition check your settings for your X windows, it is possible that you may have customized to hide the menu, I have no problems running it. Anyway. I think that we talked enough about SmartGITHg, let's not hijack this thread.

@Bogdan Hlevca I understand it's not a priority, hence why people are trying to upvote this to help make it a priority :) However, I disagree with "All Java applications have ugly UI". SyncroSVN has a pretty nice UI (not a slick modern UI that, say, Mac people are now used to, but it's still nice and works well). IntelliJ IDEA has a very nice UI. Both of those are Java applications. You asked what was wrong with SmartGit, and granted I threw in my unsolicited two cents, but those are some of the reasons why SmartGit isn't necessarily the most viable alternative (even if it's the best looking out of the set of all Linux git GUI applications, and generally 'works').

@Justin Nichols This is a Java application and that't the reason it runs on Linux. All Java applications have ugly UI. If you want to go to native UI applications such as SourceTree, Linux is not, unfortunately, a priority as you may have noticed. I am not using it commercially so licensing is not an issue for me. For most trivial things I don't even open it, I use the client available for Eclipse. Of course a SourceTree application for Linux us desirable, but it looks like it won't happen.

@Bogdan Hlevca I've tried using SmartGit. I can't get the menu to display when I install for Linux. Essentially it's crippled right from the install.

@Bogdan Hlevca For starters, it's logging sucks compared to Source Tree. Secondly, it's not free for commercial use. Thirdly, the UI is HORRIBLE. All that being said, BECAUSE SourceTree isn't available for Linux, I find myself relegated to use SmartGit as I'm able due to licensing.
