I know that the source path is valid, as my friend is able to get his to work. Why is mine failing? How can I fix this?

That looks like you have a firewall installed which is blocking access to port 443 from git - perhaps your system only allow the web browser to access 443?

Please check your firewall settings and any other security tools you have running locally which could be restricting what applications can do.
