I am leasing a brand new iMac with MacOS 10.15.2 and have just downloaded Sourcetree 4.0.1 from the Sourcetree website. I am greeted with the following error message.
"'Sourcetree' can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software."
Please advise.

Recently stumbled upon this issue too. If you're still having issues then try the following method:
1) open 'system preferences'
2) navigate to 'security & privacy'
3) allow the use of Sourcetree
This is not the right solution for this issue. This is potentially very dangerous.
You should contact Atlassian , they should fix this.
I don't understand why they haven't solved this issue.
