Adding labels with a hashtag

Once upon a time, I used the 'l' key to quickly assign a label to a card with my keyboard. A few keystrokes and the job was done. When this functionality changed, I had to use a lot of tabs to be able to do this with keyboard only. I didn't like that new feature, but by accident I found out something nice: When using the '#' I could quickly type the start of a label to add it to the card. Like adding a tag in google keep. 

Now I can't do that also. Is my memory deceiving me? Was this a functionality up until a month ago? Why was this removed? Can't find it in https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/adding-labels-to-cards/ So it looks like it never existed. Looked something like this:
