How to see date ranges in the calendar

Cara Price January 5, 2024

I see examples of date ranges and a description of how to "stretch a card" in the calendar view in order to show date ranges. however, my cards don't do anything except move when i try to stretch them. Help! I really need to see date ranges.

Hi Cara,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community! 🙂

You can add a start date manually along with a due date on each card: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/calendar-view/#:~:text=or%20one%20Month-,Add%20start/end%20dates,-In%20addition%20to

Otherwise, you can click the edge of a card in your Calendar View (either on the left or the right side) and stretch it to cover multiple dates.

Hope this information helps!

I can add start dates as well as due dates, but the card only appears on the due date, not as a time range. My cards just move in the calendar view, I don't see a way to stretch them. Is there something I need to do in order to be able to stretch them or have the date range appear?

Hi Cara,

Hmm, I don't experience the same issue. Do you use the default Calendar view on a Trello board?

I've recorded a short video to show you what I see when I add a start date:

Calendar - Start date.gif

In the video, it's also shown how to stretch a card.

My calendar is called a power-up and it looks the same except it does not have those lines at the edge of the cards and the cards do not behave that way when pulled at the edge. and it shows the card on its due date, despite adding a range as shown.

Thanks for sharing these details, Cara!

It looks like you're using a third-party Power-Up. Unfortunately, we don't have any information on it or what you'd need to do to get this working, as such Power-Ups aren't developed or managed by us.

I'd recommend switching to using the default Calendar view in Trello which would allow you to take advantage of the features shown in the GIF I shared previously.

I'm using the default Trello Calendar view and still having the same issue where I cannot stretch cards within the calendar. Are there any solutions?

Hi Jacob,

The default Calendar view is a part of the Trello Premium subscription. I've taken a quick look at your account and I haven't found any Workspace on a paid plan.

Here's more about the Calendar view: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/calendar-view/

If you're indeed using this feature, could you please record a short video of the issue you're experiencing?

Thanks!

I realized I was mixing up the Calendar view and the Trello Calendar Power-Up. That said, do you know if there are any alternatives that provide this functionality?

This seems like a very basic feature to lock behind an almost $160 CAD yearly subscription. I'd love to keep using Trello, but this has already caused significant workflow issues

I'm in the same boat. I have everything in one place but I can't have calendar items that last more than 1 day on my calendar, it's very clunky!

I realize the complications brought up with this limitation in the Power-Up, but unfortunately, there are currently no upcoming plans to update the Power-Up's functionality.

I'm sorry I couldn't offer more help here, but I'll pass on your feedback to our development team to see if it can be changed in the future.

Hi Alina! I'm slightly confused as you have mentioned that there aren't any current plans to update the power up, but previously you said that such power ups aren't developed or managed by you.

I've never heard of a calendar app not having the option to show a date range, seems very strange, like an obvious cash grap to attempt to have people pay hundreds of USD a year for a calendar.

Very disappointing.

Hey! Thanks for your question and your feedback!

I think the thread was a little confusing as several things got involved. We were talking about the Calendar view (the Trello Premium plan feature), the Calendar Power-Up (the one managed by Trello), and the Planyway Calendar (this one wasn't developed by us and was the one reported in the original message).

We indeed don't expect to invest much time in updating the Calendar Power-Up in the near future, hence, my honest comment about it. As for your comment about the cost of the Calendar view feature, I can assure you that it's not the only advantage of the Premium plan. Once you purchase the subscription, you'd get access to many more features along with the calendar. If you have any questions about those, I'd be glad to help you navigate the differences between plans.

If you have any feedback you'd like me to share with our developers, I'm here to help as well!
