Welcome Wednesday: Little Red Wagon Day!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Today is “Little Red Wagon Day“! Now, I didn’t have a little red wagon growing up, but if you did I’m love to hear what you enjoyed most about it in the comments.

What I did remember the moment I read this was one of my favorite cartoon characters and comic strips growing up: Calvin & Hobbes. To this day I still have every single collective book of the comic strips that was made, and I enjoy going back and reading them.

When I was younger, I was able to relate to Calvin a lot. His grand imagination, the sense of adventure and exploration and the “oppressive“ rules of my parents. Going back and reading them again, I understand why my mom enjoyed them as much as she did, and having a six year old boy myself, I can very much relate to Calvin’s parents now.

My question for everyone this week: Is there anything you enjoyed as a child that you now enjoy as an adult from a different perspective?

Great to see how something like Little Red Wagon Day can bring back fond memories.

Yes, I used to love playing with Legos as a kid, and now I enjoy building complex creations with my own kids and seeing the world through their eyes.

As @Humashankar VJ mentioned, I think I enjoy reliving many of my childhood memories through making new memories with my own kids. As an avid reader as a child (and now), I love re-reading some of my favorites with my kiddos. The Roald Dahl books were fun to read together - especially with the new (and old) movies to watch once we were done!

The classic answer is, of course, trick-or-treating on Halloween. My mom did not buy candy very often, so my 5 brothers and sisters and I would go out and try to get as much candy as we could—sometimes coming back home to empty our pillow cases and go back out again!

As a childless adult, I enjoy staying home and handing out the candy to all of the children, seeing their joy and costumes and appreciating any parents who prompt them to say "thank you."

I did have a little red (Radio Flyer) wagon growing up. Mostly my sister and I took turns pulling each other around in it, or using it to haul things around the yard...

Cartoons in general are entertaining in a different way now that I'm older.  Watching some of the old Hanna-Barbera (Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear), Warner Bros. (Bugs Bunny, Road Runner - ANY of the Looney Tunes characters) and of course Calvin & Hobbes cartoons, take on a WHOLE different meaning as I catch a lot of "grown up" jokes that flew right over my head as a kid.  I don't have children but I definitely still enjoy watching some of those beloved cartoons as an adult.  💞

This is a great question @Jimmy Seddon and really fits my life right now. My sisters and I are going through and watching so many old movies from our childhoods together. We have a movie night once a month where we watch a movie from our childhood and chuckle and make comments throughout. It is so much fun and some of these movies have taken on a whole new meaning for us. So far we have watched The Watcher in the Woods (WTH Disney?!?!?), Flight of the Navigator, The Neverending Story, and this Friday night we are watching the original Clash of the Titans!

For me, my love for video games has been a constant since childhood. They began as vibrant, exciting adventures, introducing me to a world of color and the joy of discovery, all from the cozy corners of my home. These games were my first victories, my first steps into imaginary worlds. As I've aged, so has the depth of my connection with gaming. It's not just about overcoming challenges anymore; it's about immersing myself in stories and appreciating the graphics. Gaming has become a way to unwind, reconnect with friends, and relive those initial sparks of joy. Now, as an adult, video games serve as a portal to the past, rekindling old friendships and memories. Even now, I occasionally revisit old games to see how they've evolved or to check if any of my old teammates are still around.

Like @Humashankar VJ and @Amanda Barber my perspective has changed with having a child.

My daughter doesn't enjoy Lego as much as I did as a child, she does play with it sometimes by herself although nowadays she's more into combing her dolls' hair, but she does like building Lego models with me, so for every birthday or Christmas I get given a Star Wars Lego set to build with her.

It's also nice seeing her read books that I enjoyed as a child and seeing just how absorbed she gets with them, and apparently at her age I was the same.

It's amazing that you're finding ways to bond with your daughter through Lego and reading, even if it's not exactly the same as your own childhood experiences. It's great that you're creating new memories together, and it's gorgeous that she enjoys combing her dolls' hair! Now little daughter do the same and she likes to talk more to her LoL Dolls - It's also amazing how our children can mirror our own childhood experiences in unexpected ways. We have to enjoy those special moments and happy building/reading!!

Definitely video games. When I was younger it was more about challenge and adrenaline. Now it's more about the story, engaging with them for new experiences, new ways of things and strategy. Going back and playing old games it like a time machine back to how I was, while adding something new each time I revisit them time and again, years later.

I mildly enjoyed cooking growing up but I didn't appreciate the reasons why my parents put in certain seasonings at certain times in Indian cooking.

Now that I am older, and a parent, paying attention to these small details that can make or break  a dish is something that fascinates me, and try as I might, I can't figure out how to replicate mom's cooking!! Even when I have the same ingredients. It's magic.
