We're currently using a kanban board for one of our teams. And this works well especially when we want to release a set of features.
However, when the same team suddenly has to create a hotfix for an issue on production this is a separate release.
How can we press 'Release' on the Kanban board for a subset of the issue on display?

Instead of mangling your board to get the release button to work,
I realized that there is a simple answer: add another column at the right end of the board called "Staged Release" or "Next Release" or something similar. The board will only release issues in the last column of the board, so leave that new final column empty until you are ready to release. Then, just move over the stories to be released, hit the "Release..." link and viola, you've released a subset of completed issues.

I'm having a similar issue and would love some advice. I'm managing multiple proejcts with a single board, where each project matches a different code base. I would love to be able to release from this board per project, instead of all at once. Moreover, we will have the same hotfix issue described above. Thanks.

I tried to set this up but the new column doesn't appear. I believe it's because there is not a ticket status state attributed to the new column. For it to work, a new status would need to be added to the workflow.
