Need to use JWT auth with Snowflake database to Atlassian Analytics

Shai_Leib July 31, 2025

We currently connect Snowflake database to Atlassian Analytics using a password based account, however Snowflake is deprecating the ability to have password accounts without MFA enabled.

I used this link to setup the connection https://support.atlassian.com/analytics/docs/connect-to-snowflake/ . However, if there is no other way we can authenticate Atlassian to Snowflake such as JWT our connection will stop working.

Thsi is also showing up in our Snowflake trust center as a critical vulnerability and we would like to resolve it.

Hi Shai,

There's a similar feature request to accommodate the Snowflake authentication method changes tracked in ANALYTICS-498: New authentication method for Snowflake. It'd be great if you could upvote the suggestion ticket to help the product team prioritise this.

Hi Shai,

You're right, Snowflake is phasing out password-based authentication without MFA, and that's causing issues for many users who rely on integrations like Atlassian Analytics. Unfortunately, as of now, Atlassian Analytics doesn't support JWT-based or key pair authentication for Snowflake connections, which leaves a bit of a gap for secure and compliant access.

If your goal is to connect Snowflake to Jira in a secure, future-proof way, you might consider looking into our Snowflake for Jira app. It works with key-pair authentication. It's designed to support secure, direct data integration without relying on password-based connections from Atlassian Analytics. Instead, it syncs Jira data into Snowflake using scheduled, real-time, or one-time exports with full support for custom fields, Assets, Forms, and Tempo data.

We’ve worked with several organizations facing the same auth deprecation challenge, and this setup not only bypasses the password issue but gives you much more flexibility on how and when data is transferred.

Documentation can be found here.

If you want to chat about your setup in more detail, feel free to reach out to support@mobilitystream.com. We're happy to help.

Kind regards,
