I would like to assign an issue using the commit message. For example:

reopens #56 assign=@username

I have to go to the web-interface just for reassigning the issue. It would be so much easier if this could be done from the commit message.

According to the docs, there is no assign command, so I doubt it. You may be able to set it #in-progress, which may automatically assign it to the committer, but you'd have to try that and perhaps set up some automation in the JIRA workflow. But if you want to assign the issue to someone else other than the committer, I don't think it would be possible.
