Outdated comments on pull requests problem.

This wasn't a problem at all, and for the last few weeks, it started to happen. Basically any change to the file is outdating the comment even if the line didn't change the position and the line didn't change the content.

This started to annoy a lot recently all our team.

I understand that you have to solve the "High Plains Drifter" problem, but comments started to be outdated even for lines of code that did not change their position and the line itself didn't change at all.

This is happening to us, too.

It's more than just annoying... it makes commenting in PRs pretty worthless!

Our workaround is to:

  • Look at the "outdated" comment (not really outdated, because the line is still there)
  • Copy a piece of code near the comment, preferably something unique to that area of code
  • Do a browser search to find that line in the PR diffs
  • Keep the "outdated" comment open in a different browser tab so we can read it while looking at the code

I hope this gets fixed soon. The above process for looking at every comment is making working through PRs very time-consuming.

UPDATE: This seems to be fixed some time ago. I did not see the issue happening anymore.
