Why can't I see "Branch Permissions" as an option at the project settings level

Jeff Mylrea March 17, 2022

I can't see Branch Permissions under settings for a project. I can only see branching model and merge strategies under workflow.

from the documentation it seems this at least was possible in the past or may have been removed?

or is it some setting that I have missed in our workspace that has disabled this?

Hi, @Jeff Mylrea, thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community.

Currently, branch permissions in the project level are just available in the Bitbucket Server/Data center, as you can see in this doc:

When using Bitbucket cloud, you can add branch permissions at the repository level. In order to do that, you can open your repository > go to Repository settings > Branch permissions. This is the doc for branch permissions on Bitbucket cloud:

With that said, we are already working on implementing project permissions on Bitbucket Cloud as well, as you can see in the following feature request that is in progress:

I would suggest that you add yourself as a watcher (by selecting the Start watching this issue link) if you'd like to get notified via email on updates.

Please feel free to share any additional questions or concerns regarding this case.

Kind regards,
Caroline

Hi @Caroline R ,
I followed your mentioned doc "https://support.atlassian.com/bitbucket-cloud/docs/use-branch-permissions/".
The problem is that I dont have any sections like "Write access". Only this:MergeChecks.png

What am I missing?

Hi @Pascal Puy,

Based on your screenshot, it looks like you are using Bitbucket Server or Data Center.

The documentation you linked is applicable to Bitbucket Cloud only.

The branch restrictions documentation for Bitbucket Server or Data Center is the following:

Kind regards,
Theodora
