reduce repository that is above 8.7GB

Leonardo Pereira November 29, 2023

I made hundreds of deletions to reduce the size of my repository and when trying to commit. I receive a message stating that it is not possible to make new commits because my repository has exceeded the size of 8.7Gb. How do I perform the reduction if the commit with the exclusions is not accepted?

Hello @Leonardo Pereira and welcome to the Community!

I have temporarily increased the size limit of your repository so you can push the changes with the cleaned repo :)

After you push those changes, please let us know so I can run a GC in the repository to remove any dangling objects that may be generated by the exclusions.

Thank you, @Leonardo Pereira

Hello @Leonardo Pereira ,

You're very welcome!

Checking internally I see the repository size wasn't actually reduced, and your repository is currently 9.2GB. As the size increase is temporary just so you were able to push, we kindly ask you to follow the instructions of the below article to reduce the size below the 4GB limit and/or move the large files to LFS :

If we don't hear back from you, I'm afraid we'll need to reduce the size limit to 4GB again, which will put your repo in read-only mode.

Should you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you, @Leonardo Pereira !

Patrik, good afternoon!
I had reduced the size from 11gb to 8.3
Because the message that appeared to me said that I had exceeded the 8.7Gb limit
What is the actual size limit?
8.7Gb or 4Gb
I use the free subscription, if I switch to a paid subscription what would be the limit?

Could you guide me on the appropriate subscription plan for the size of my repository?

Hello @Leonardo Pereira ,

Regardless of the plan, the size limit of a repository is 4GB, as documented in our Manage your plan and billing documentation.

If you need to store large files in your repository we suggest moving those files to LFS as described in Use BFG to migrate a repo to LFS. The Free plan comes with 1GB of LFS, while the Standard and Premium plans have 5GB and 10 GB, respectively.

You can also opt to stay in the Free plan and pay $10 for 100GB of LFS that can be used across any repository under your workspace. If you prefer to go with that route, please check the instructions on Change your plan page, more specifically the info panel in blue that contains details on how you can buy additional storage when in the Free plan.

Should you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Thank you, @Leonardo Pereira !

Patrick,
The option to purchase additional space is not appearing for me.

Hello @Leonardo Pereira ,

You will first need to click on "Atualizar plano", and then at the very bottom of the table you will see an option called "Add Overage"

It's important to note that this will add extra LFS space, not repository space, so you will still need to Migrate large files from your repository to LFS .

Thank you, @Leonardo Pereira !
