what is downloads for?

if you want to add a file to git, in which case do you add the file to the source https://bitbucket.org/[team]/[repository]/src

and in which case do you add the file to Downloads?

https://bitbucket.org/[team]/[repository]/downloads/

Hello @Tommer,

The content managed by Git/Mercurial is what you see under /src. The Downloads section is an additional space that belongs to the repository but is not managed by version control system. In some cases it's handy to store some relevant artifacts next to the repository but not include them into the VCS.

Downloads section was added back in 2009, here're a feature request and a blog post about it.

by the way, I had already read the blog post , but it does not explain the important detail, that files in Downloads are not included in version control.
