Can I configure tables to permit independent editing? Not using the Edit button on a page

Assume that a page has multiple tables. I would like to be able to edit the tables separately, not having to open the Edit for the entire page. does Confluence have this ability? Other wikis/twikis sometimes do.

Hi,

Has there been made any updates to functionality now? (3 1/2 years since the original question was asked).

For example mediawiki has a solution for this called tablemod: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TableMod
