Can a Confluence template contain read-only sections?

Rob Grant October 15, 2021

I'd like to have a template where headings, certain paragraphs, tables and table headings are all locked down, and the user just needs to fill in the gaps (e.g. add/remove/populate tables, fill in certain areas. Is this possible in Confluence Cloud?

Hi @Rob Grant,

The only way I can think of doing this would be using the include page macro. In your template you could include other pages that your users don't have edit rights to and that make up the "read only" sections of your pages.

However, this only works well for things like headings and full paragraphs, but not so much if you want your users to fill in a single word or gap within a paragraph or sentence for example. Also, keep in mind that while your users may not be able to edit the included page itself, they'll of course still be able to remove the include macros.

If that doesn't work for your case, maybe you could look on the Marketplace and see if you can't find an app that may provide some more sophisticated template behavior. Hope this helps! :)

Cheers,
Sven
