Confluence guest cannot search in the dedicated space

Hello all,

Recently we decided to create a space for our clients to access "public" documents. We don't want anonymous access so we used guests accesses.

Most of them have no issue but one has a blocking issue as he can't use the native search function. whatever he does, the search return either no result or an error message asking for page refresh.

I've already checked the user configuration and his group, but everything is aligned with other guests.

I've also tried to impersonate him but the search results are irrelevant as it shows me the results of MY account, accessing all the spaces... :-\

Is there something I miss here?

If some people find this post, just know that the issue was in fact the TERRIBLE documentation provided by Atlassian.

If you have a customer in your portal, and suddenly you want him/her to access some other applications in your Atlassian environment (like Confluence) DON'T INVITE HIM/HER. It will create a duplicate and it will have a lot of side-effects (like the search, or even preventing the user to connect to the portal)

The correct way is:

  1. Go to Atlassian administration
  2. Navigate to Jira Service Management
  3. Find your user and use the three-dot menu to Migrate to Atlassian account

It will

  • Disable the customer account
  • Create a new REAL user in your direct and automatically assign him/her the Jira Service Management client access

From there, you will be able to add access to Jira or Confluence or whatever you want.

I've made a lot of search before and I never found a reference to this feature.

Hey there @Jonathan Porta ,

It sounds like this user may be facing interference from a network element, a browser extension or something else isolated to his device.

A few triaging questions:

  • does the user has the same issue with different browsers?
  • does the user connects to a VPN or is subject to a different firewall?
  • would it be possible to temporarily disable all browser extensions and test again?

It would be ideal if you could open a Support ticket so our Team can investigate on this and assist the affected person.

Hope this helps!  =]

Is it quite complicated because it is a client of ours. But I will ask him the question you listed.

In the mean time I will create a support ticket.

Hi @Jonathan Porta , thank you for accepting my answer!

Hope the affected user can now search in Confluence as a Guest.

Hello @Jonathan Porta

Below mentioned could be one of the possibilities for your issue

  • User not synced to confluence
  • Page or Parent page restriction

Thanks
