Doc title in sidebar not showing children

gustavo July 31, 2023

Newbie question, apologies if this is the wrong place.

I created a new document with its internal structure and table of contents.   It appears now on the team´s space sidebar but only as a single bullet, not as a right-pointing arrow with the sub sections visible upon clicking.   What did i do wrong?  Can I change this to see the subsections in the space bar without rewrite?  Thank you

Thanks so much Sayed for your answer.  I think the short answer is I created the whole thing as a single page with different headings, and now cannot see the sections in the sidebar, only main title

I have a table of contents at the top which enables direct navigation to the subsections

But on the side bar you only see the single bullet, no clickable arrow to display subsections

Thanks for confirming @gustavo that is the expected behaviour. The arrow will only show up if you put the subsections into child pages (if you choose to do this then make sure to insert a children-display-macro in your parent page) :)

thanks Sayed, what would be the quickest / best way of making that conversion?

@gustavo According to this post (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-questions/How-can-I-create-multiple-pages-from-one-Master-page-which-has/qaq-p/1777589 ), one way is to make multiple copies of the page and remove the text you don't want from each page.

You could also try

  1. open the page for editing in 1 browser window
  2. create a new page in a 2nd browser window (so you can see them side-by-side)
  3. copy/paste from the parent page only the content you want on the child page
  4. change the heading levels as needed
  5. cut the text from the parent

@gustavo welcome to the community!

How have you structured your subsections? Did you created them as separate child pages or they are all in the same page with different headings? Perhaps you can share a screenshot to understand better.
