Group and user permissions

spaks February 1, 2023

Hello community,

we have a Space A. Group B has access to Space A. User C is member of group B. User C shall not have access to all content of space A. In the site permissions, I can only set users and groups to have access. But there is no options to deny access to a specific page for a user.

How can I deny access to lets say 2 pages out of 4 pages in space A where group B has access to and user C is part of group B? Is that even possible?

Hope its understandable what I mean.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Cheers,

Katrin

Hi @spaks ,

I don't think you can do this simply. The access rights of the page are inherited from the parent. You may need to adjust the page structure tree and the group relationship corresponding to the personnel so that they can achieve your goals.

In addition, use different spaces to manage possible would be simpler.

I think Confluence is a tool for collaborative work. I don't recommend you to restrict too much access to him, although the system supports such configuration.

“Working as a team is really hard, and tools alone won't fix that. There needs to be an underlying culture that supports the team and how they work together.

Effective knowledge sharing happens when a company's culture and technical infrastructure are aligned toward open communication.

If team members see it as advantageous to hoard information, this is most likely behavior that has been reinforced through the company or team culture.”

Hello @spaks

What you want is possible, in a manner of speaking.

With Page Restrictions you can specify who CAN access a page. You are not able to specify who CAN'T access the page.

So, to accomplish what you want, you would set page restrictions to allow everybody in group B except user C. You would grant access to each member of group B individually, and exclude user C.

Refer to this for more information.

Note that page restrictions are inherited by child pages. If you put the restriction on page X, all pages that are children and lower level descendants of page X will have the same restrictions.
