Iinsert Markup feature has broken recently - not inserting anything

The "Insert Markup" feature is broken. This occurred fairly recently.

I'm using the Legacy Editor. When I choose "Insert Markup" and enter any text and then click "Insert", the form goes blank (no text in it) and nothing is inserted. The dialog stays open. Only way to close the dialog is to press cancel. Closing the dialog does not result in text being inserted.

This must have happened in last few weeks. last time I used it was a couple weeks ago I think. This is a very important feature for us. 

Any ideas how to work around this?

Yes this has been reported and captured here - CONFCLOUD-73878 - insert Markup in Legacy editor does not work . There is a  work aground identified there but I cannot confirm that it works or not.

The workaround does not work for me.  No macro {markup} exists for me.  I added comments to that bug.  It concerns me that the bug is in "Gathering Impact" status - I hope it does not stay there long.  Impact seems clearly 100% reproducible to several and I am guessing all.  I tried in a few different browsers.
