Importing HTML results in a new space with no content

Dora September 25, 2025

I am trying to import HTML into our Confluence site using the instructions here: support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/import-data-from-html-to-confluence/

I have a folder containing about 10 HTML files and have zipped that folder.

When I import, I get prompted to create a new space and then run the import. When I get the email that the import is finished, the new space is created but it doesn't have any pages in it with my content. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hi @Dora — it’s Mia here 😊

You need to make sure your ZIP file is structured correctly:

  • Inside the ZIP, there should be a folder (whose name will become your space name).
  • That folder must contain your .html files and subfolders for images, CSS, etc. (each page’s media must live in a folder named like that page).
  • When you import, check the “space restrictions” setting — if you set it to “Only visible to me”, nobody else will see the pages.
  • Also, ensure your Confluence user has permission to create spaces and to view pages in that space.

Finally, confirm the ZIP doesn’t exceed your site’s attachment size limit.

If all that is correct, the pages should appear.

Hi Mia,

Jumping in as I am having the same issue. I have followed all the steps above and still am getting blank pages within the space. All of the titles for the pages are there but there is no content in them.

Thanks for any additional help you can offer!

Thanks Mia,

I think I was doing all of that too. I'll have another go and see what happens.

My problem was that my HTML files had a .htm extension. Once I renamed them to .html, the pages and content imported successfully.
