Is it possible to link to a not-already-created undefined page in Confluence from an external site?

Nikhil Owalekar July 19, 2023

I have been able to create link to an undefined page using the [undefined page]() macro. The macro creates a link like this,

https://company.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/createpage.action?spaceKey=~557058775000df777e4278a9d7b4175af976e8&title=undefined%20page&linkCreation=true&fromPageId=3056926778

Once the above page is published, the macro automagically updates the link to,

https://company.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/~557058775000df777e4278a9d7b4175af976e8/pages/3063578636

I want to implement above behaviour for links from an external system.

i.e. I will always have the "createpage" link published in the external system. And when the page is already published, the link should redirect to the already created page.

The use case is very simple. For the alerts delivered by OpsGenie, we want to have runbooks in Confluence. Each alert should have a link to it's specific runbook. If the runbook is not created, it should take the user to the editor with a blank page. If the runbook is already created, it should take the user to the runbook page.

Also, above functionality was working as I have described/expected until 2-3 months ago. Now the createpage.action link always takes me to the editor, even when the page with the same title+parent already exists.

Any way to bring it back? Or a workaround ?

@Nikhil Owalekar you would have to create your own macro to track the created page and even then I am not sure how you would make the relationship.
