Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 19:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×Both Confluence Cloud and Confluence Server have moved search box to top right. You can work around this in Server by putting search above above links. Is this possible in Cloud?
WHY THIS MATTERS:
You have links page open in left margin - if you can't see the link you want - you go to search. In current layout you have to drag the mouse across the screen or move your right hand off the mouse (for righthanders) to the "/" shortcut (why not make is "s" or configurable at least!). Please get UX designers who care about ergonomics and usability, not just about how pretty stuff looks!
PS: As much as Adobe are robbers with the whole cloud model at least they're getting this right - everything configurable, in all/most their suite everything geared towards productivity. Do the same and cultivate your advocates into the cloud age.
Hi @Joe Bloggs
you aren’t able to move the search bar, however you can add a search bar to any page:
https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/insert-the-livesearch-macro/
i was trying to look for feature requests but it doesn’t seem there is one.
in regards to your shortcuts question, “s” is a shortcut key that tends to be taken in all of computer language as the save key. F is already taken as well by the operating system, so applications themselves have to come up with a way to allow for searching within just the app.
I also don’t see a request for the ability to change the keyboard shortcuts only the ability to turn them off.
in regards to why a tool like Adobe can do this versus a tool like Confluence....Adobe stores files locally on your computer or in your own account for your settings. These don’t get stored in any system level files. Confluence works from the database level, which in turn, for certain changes can lead to other problems. Not everything on a database level can or should be changed.
I do understand the frustration, however many of these things come with training of some kind. If this really isn’t working for your users I’d suggest providing them a resource of keyboard shortcuts and challenging them to learn the tool a bit. Whenever someone adopts a tool, there is always a learning curve. You’ll always have frustrated users but you overcome them.
This page should help with the how to use confluence aspect: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/keyboard-shortcuts-markdown-and-autocomplete/
Hope you have a good weekend!

Is it possible to add LiveSearch or Search this space to Shortcuts on the left sidebar?

I might have figured it out: Space tools > Overview > Look and Feel > Sidebar, header and Footer > in Sidebar field enter {livesearch:spaceKey=DOC|size=large|placeholder=Search this space} > Save

Thanks, @Heathur Aanrud , worked like a charm!

How do I restrict the results to pages, only? The following doesn't work:
{livesearch:spaceKey=ABC|size=medium|type=page|placeholder=Search in this Space only}
The link generated by this macro does have a parameter "contentType=page" in it, which doesn't have any effect (as "type", too).
Found out this is a bug mentioned in 2017 that is unsolved ever since (→ https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-52446).
