Project Milestone Template - Project Timeline and Roadmap Linked?

I've been looking at the Project Milestone template, but had (naively?) assumed that adding items to the Project Timeline would change the Roadmap - is that not the case, or am I doing something wrong?

Updating the Project Timeline doesn't automatically sync with the Roadmap. Currently, these sections in the Project Milestone template are not linked. 

• Manually update the Roadmap section to align with Timeline changes.
