Do I have to install Crowd for SSO if migrating both Confluence and JIRA from Atlassian Cloud?

Do I have to install Crowd for SSO if migrating both Confluence and JIRA from Atlassian Cloud?  I'm a bit confused, it doesn't look like Crowd is installed on OnDemand, and we're using local (as in JIRA) authentication, no LDAP, etc.

Maybe I wasn't overly clear.

I don't want SSO on anything other than JIRA and Confluence and I don't need any external authenticator (LDAP, etc.)  There is a reference on https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Connecting+to+Crowd+or+JIRA+for+User+Management halfway down the page that doesn't use Crowd, but that also doesn't seem to work properly, and I can't tell if that's because it's outdated documentation, or I'm misreading it.

That page would seem to indicate that Crowd isn't required for just Confluence/JIRA.  Correct?

Hi Lee, You can integrate Confluence with JIRA to use the same user base without Crowd. However, you are mentioning about the Single Sign On (SSO) feature which is only provided by Crowd and other third party tools. See this documentation to understand which SSO apps Confluence and JIRA can be integrated with: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DEV/Single+Sign-on+Integration+with+JIRA+and+Confluence Remember that SSO is a different feature which automatically logs you in once you log in any application using this feature. For example, if you log on Confluence you'll get automatically logged into JIRA as well (if you have the proper permissions). Without SSO you'll need to log into both apps independently, regardless if you are using the same user base or not. I hope it clarifies, Lee. Eduardo

Hey Lee,

The SSO feature is achieved by using Crowd on our case. Please see this documentation: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CROWD/Overview+of+SSO

You can use both instances with the same set of users, but if you want to get the SSO feature, which automatically logs you into the other apps after logging into any application using the SSO, then you'd need to use Crowd or some other application that let's you achieve that.
