Pricing for Confluence guests

Lara Brown November 9, 2023

Hi there,

I'm aware that for each paid user on Confluence, you are allowed 5 free guests. However, what I'm struggling to find is information on what happens if that isn't enough guests.

Is anyone able to provide information on whether having additional guests is possible and if so, what the cost implications are?

Thanks.

Hi @Lara Brown

As far as I know, it is not possible to add more guests than the 5 guests per paid user (except by adding additional paid users, of course). Also, there is a limit for the total number of users, which is 50'000 for the Standard plan and above:

Guests are free of charge (up to 5 guests per paid user). Total number of users (paid + guests) can't exceed the current Confluence site user limit.

Hope this helps.

Hey @Lara Brown

As guest users are directly tied to the number of licensed users/the license tier, there's no option to add more than five guests per licensed user unless you increase the number of licensed users/your license tier. I guess you have to find other ways to manage guest accounts to free them up or need to rethink your general approach to working with guest access. What requires you to have more than five times the number of guests than licensed users? 🤔

Best, Max

What are your guests going to do in the Confluence space you have opened up to them? If it's just read-only access they want, have you considered using generic "service accounts" (eg. guest1@x.com, guest2@x.com) which can be shared out as you need. That should allow you to re-use your guest accounts and stay below your maximum guest limit.

Generally, I wouldn't recommend using service/non-personal accounts for this kind of access but appreciate increasing your licensed user count may not be an option. Your security team may also have a view on this! Also, I wouldn't recommend this type of access if your guests are planning on making updates in their allocated Confluence space.
