Attachment Macro sorting with a numerical prefix

Michael Jones May 1, 2019

Hi,

I am using the standard file list template in confluence to display a list of supporting files. The naming standard I use for the files is

yyyyMM  ie   201902 Test Report.pdf

If I edit the macro and choose to sort by "name" and "Descending" the macro preview shows things beautifully sorted exactly how I would like . i.e.

However after saving the macro... confluence then presents the data in a complete meaningless sort order ie

saved.png

The most goading this is the macro preview is RIGHT... Its only the resulting page that has the incorrect file display order.

In the saved macro it appears confluence is ignoring the number abd just sorting on part of the name property. But in the preview it correctly sorts on the full name property.  Am I doing something wrong? Shouldnt the preview match the saved output?

How frustrating...

What happens when you press on the File column header?  Does it sort the table as you would expect?

It has exactly the same result. It sorts on the alpha characters and seems to ignore the numeric prefix.  It seems like an incredibly strange way to function as all database keys, collection sorts and the like in virtually every other software tool support numbers when sorting on alphanumeric field.
