Create a JIRA Issue in Confluence and directly assign it to an Epic

Viktoria Gassner January 27, 2021

Is there a way to assign a Jira issue that you create on Confluence directly to an Epic? Now I can only add the project, issue type, summary and description. But I would like to assign the issue to a specific Epic in a project right away.

Thanks for your help

Hey Viktoria,

There is no out of the box way to create the issue and assign values to other custom fields or assign to Epics.  One workaround could be having specific issue types that are automatically assigned to Epics using a Post-Function in the workflow.

It's not the cleanest way, but it would get the job done.

I guess my question would be why are you creating those issues in Confluence instead of Jira directly?

I would also like to be able to do this.  We often have tasks that come out of meetings that we use Confluence tasks for.  But it would be better if these were Jira tasks.  People have two lists of tasks to look at - Jira tasks and Confluence tasks.  If we could assign the Jira task directly to an epic straight out of Confluence, we'd stop using Confluence tasks and people would only have one backlog.

Essentially, we are using Jira for more than just development tasks - we're using it for the whole SDLC
