Hi @farhad_ashktorab ,

Which browser are you using? Some recent changes to Confluence Cloud mean that Companion is only supported on Chrome, recent versions of Firefox & recent versions of Edge.

See the Confluence Server KB here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/cant-edit-files-in-confluence-server-using-atlassian-companion-app-in-internet-explorer-edge-firefox-or-safari-981152695.html of which the cause section is applicable to Confluence Cloud.

Regards,
Alex

Could you please check that the following message appears in the Companion log file: "direct websocket launched successfully on port: 31459".

To access the Companion logs, please click the Companion tray icon, then click "View Logs". This will take you to a directory containing a "companion.log" file which can be viewed in any text editor.

when i double click on Campanion.exe it does not install the software. So i can't access the .log file.

below is the all that happens and then it closes itselfAtlissian.jpg

Companion should install to %LOCALAPPDATA%/Atlassian Companion - do you see this directory?

Are you presented with any error message? Companion runs in the background so the install process currently does not give any indication of success other than seeing the Companion taskbar icon and the Companion executable in your start menu.

Alternatively, you can try to install with the .msi installer from here (although this is not recommended as it does not receives updates).

Hi @farhad_ashktorab ,

I see that you are using Confluence Server. Seeing this dialog means that Confluence is able to connect to Companion locally. Do you see a native dialog asking for you to trust the Confluence instance?

farhad_ashktorab February 16, 2020

no i don't.

farhad_ashktorab February 16, 2020

as i click on 'Learn more' it then directs me to this page

Hi @farhad_ashktorab ,

Could you please send a copy of the companion.log file now? If you don't feel comfortable doing so on Community please raise a support ticket here

It would also be useful to see the WebSocket network log to diagnose the problem. This can be found by opening the Chrome developer tools -> Network -> WS then select the entry for "127.0.0.1" and copy the messages.

farhad_ashktorab February 17, 2020

how do i select the entry for "127.0.0.1"?
