How do I differentiate Confluence Teams from Groups?

christopher.brush February 18, 2025

Are teams a subset of groups? Or, are teams an entirely separate entity?

Hi Christopher - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

No, Teams are different and totally separate from Groups. Groups are controlled by users with Site Access Administrator permissions and have been around for a long time. The Teams field is relatively new and do not require Site Admin permissions to setup. But the field is not as robust and cannot be used for granting permissions like Groups can.

Also, you are able to sync groups into teams too (but not teams into groups).
