Jira and Confluence integration

Neeraj Kumar August 16, 2018

Hello,

I have both Jira cloud and Confluence cloud as a separate account. How can I integrate Confluence in jira?

Jira show only option for trial sign up for new subscription from jira account.

You can link them via application link page: https://<instancename>/plugins/servlet/applinks/listApplicationLinks

So basically, here are the steps:

  1. Click JIRA Settings > Applications in the sidebar
  2. Choose Application Links.
  3. Enter the URL and choose Create new link.
  4. Use the wizard to complete setup of the application link.

Hope this helps! :)

Okay. So I see that I have already linked my confluence with jira sometime back.

But why does in Jira new interface on clicking page for a project ask me to sign up for confluence?
By mistake I signed up and deactivated it and now it is showing attached image.

Ah. The pages feature only applicable for native confluence. By "native confluence" i mean Confluence on the same instance.

It wouldn't work for a separate confluence instance.

But features like JIRA Issue macro would work on the separate Confluence Cloud instance and the link for your Confluence pages would also work in your JIRA.

Just not the pages feature. :(

Okay.

I have 2 questions now

  1. How does user mgmt done in native confluence. Does it count all users which are present in jira? What if I don't need all my jira users to use confluence.
  2. Can I migrate my other confluence instance contents to native confluence instance.

  1. Nope. It wouldn't count all JIRA users. You can have confluence users that have no JIRA application access. And that can be done by unchecking the JIRA application access. For example, in this case here, my user Shakiru doesn't have a JIRA access but only ConfluenceScreenshot_1.jpg
  2. Yes definitely. You can perform space by space import to your JIRA Cloud instance. And here's a guide on how to do just that: Import a Confluence space
