Even the page history seems to be showing only broken images. This can't be the case.

How can we recover these images? Or at least see what they were?

Hi @Nibu Thomas ,

Please Clear browser cache, then refresh the page. Or access the confluence from another browser and check.

Google Chrome : Clear cache and cookies
Firefox : How to clear the Firefox cache
Edge : More options > Settings > Clear browsing data : Choose what to clear > Cached data and file > Clear
Internet Explorer : Tools > Safety > Delete Browsing History > Temporary Internet files and website files > Delete
Safari : Develop > Empty Caches

If still the issue exists, and its occurring for other users as well then please contact Atlassian support https://support.atlassian.com/customer/servicedesk-portal
