Try to simply copy and paste the youtube link URL (both short or long) won't work.
If I use the Widget Connector then it won't allow me to resize the video.

I really like to see the auto-convert can work by pasting the Youtube URL.

for Confluence Cloud, you can give our app "YouTube for Confluence" (see https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1221789/) a try.
With this app, YouTube links (both the short and the long version) that are pasted into a Confluence page are automatically converted into a YouTube macro.
