Have you installed confluence manually using tar.gz file?

If yes here is what you can do to upgrade it.

  1. Download new confluence 6.13.6 tar.gz.
  2. Extract it near your old confluence installation.
  3. Set confluence home is newly extracted file same us your old installation.
    • in file <new_confluence_dir>/confluence/WEB-INF/classes/confluence-init.properties to match previous installation
  4. If required (i.e. if you have made any changes in your previous installation)
    1. Update <new_confluence_dir>/conf/server.xml file to match previous installation
    2. Update <new_confluence_dir>/bin/setenv.sh file to match previous installation
  5. If you using any custom db-jdbc-connector (like mysql) copy it to lib folder of new confluence directory.
  6. Shutdown your old Confluence

  7. Fire new confluence.

You will be good to go.
