Performance and Scale Digest: 2025 Q1

Hello Atlassian Community!

Welcome to another edition of the Performance and Scale Digest, showcasing the latest performance and scale enhancements to Atlassian Cloud. We look forward to seeing many of you at Team ‘25 in Anaheim, where you can explore these updates further, connect with industry experts, and gain insights to help you drive enterprise growth.

Enterprise-grade scalability

We recognize that being able to scale confidently is critical to helping your organization future-proof, so we’ve worked hard to increase Jira Cloud’s user capacity.

[Coming Soon] Support for 100,000 users on a single Jira site

Jira Cloud is about to double in scale! By the end of Q2 2025, we will support 100,000 users on a single Jira site. This boost in user capacity enables organizations on Enterprise, Premium, and Standard plans to bring 2x as many users into a single, centralized site. For many of our largest Data Center customers, this provides the opportunity to migrate to Jira Cloud, expand collaboration across more teams, and accelerate work at enterprise scale.

Performance improvements

We always strive to deliver a performant experience by optimizing backend systems, providing flexible tools, and automating workflows. Check out these upcoming and recently released capabilities that help you get work done faster.

[Coming Soon] Atlassian Command-Line Interface for Jira

Atlassian is excited to introduce the Atlassian Command-Line Interface (ACLI), a powerful new way for you to interact with Jira Cloud using text-based commands and scripts. Included in all Jira plans, ACLI will unlock unparalleled speed and precision, helping you to achieve faster results, have greater control over workflows, and approach work more flexibly—especially for those who prefer code over the GUI.

Keep your eyes open for the Open Beta announcement in the Enterprise and Jira Community to gain details on how you can join!

Bulk Delete API for Jira

The Bulk Delete API is now available for Jira Cloud on Enterprise, Premium, and Standard plans, allowing you to delete multiple issues in a single request. This tool empowers admins to clean up their Jira site(s) more efficiently, reducing manual effort and freeing up time for more strategic work. To start using the Bulk Delete API today, check out the official documentation for setup details and best practices.

Faster Confluence Databases

Databases in Confluence now load significantly faster! We optimized server-side rendering, streamlined data loading, and enhanced interaction efficiency to reduce database load times. Key performance improvements include:

Faster load-times

  • Standalone viewing loads are 53% faster

  • Embedded viewing loads are 46% faster

  • Embedded entry viewing loads are 56% faster

Faster interactions

  • Selecting is 75% faster

  • Navigating the side panel is 60% faster

  • Scrolling is 76% faster

[Coming Soon] Rendering Speed Improvements for Confluence

A new Confluence performance milestone has been added to the roadmap! We’ve committed to making page and edit loads render up to 2x faster—improving efficiency for all Confluence users. This milestone is part of our ongoing performance optimizations, with several backend improvements already in place:

  • Eliminated inefficiencies in page rendering

  • Optimized collapsible sections in the page tree

  • Enhanced detection and prevention of key degradation causes

That's a wrap for the 2025 Q1 Performance and Scale Digest! We can't wait to see you at Team '25 in Anaheim, where we'll unveil more innovations that help your teams unleash their full potential.

I know many of our users will like the CLI, though it also comes with the ability to make mistakes faster than ever.  Will this be paired with any undo capabilities at the CLI?

@John Dunkelberg great points!

Maybe we need "are you sure??" prompts lol.

Admin: ALCI drop all tables.

ALCI: Are you sure you want to delete all tables?

Admin: I mean delete this one issue.

ALCI: Uh huh.

@John@Josh, with great power comes great responsibility ;)

1. For bulk operations, ACLI confirms with the user that the change will be applied to N number of work items. However, the user can override this by providing self-explanatory flags like '--ignore-errors' and '--yes.'
2. Fortunately, some objects provide undo to some operations on them (work item archive/unarchive, project restore, cancel delete of the user, etc.). ACLI ensures that these capabilities are available.
