We have JSM Cloud and are beginning to use Assets. We currently have a tool that store information about items like laptops and other equipment and users can go in and search for and reserve what they need. The tool will no longer be supported so we need to find a new tool. We wondered if it would be possible to create a similar reservation tool using native JSM and Assets.
As an example, we may have among other things, 10 HP ProBook 440 G10 laptops that can be reserved. Each has it's own name, model number, serial number etc. We want the user to be able to go to our portal, search for a laptop with the specifications they need (we want them to see all the information about the item), see what is available based on the dates they enter, and reserve the laptop.
Is this possible without buying a plugin?
Thank you for any help!
Lisa
with native JSM and Assets
Hi, @lbhender
Actually, what you’re describing is something that Assets (formerly Insight) in Jira Service Management can handle really well.
With Assets, you can create objects with custom attributes and set up JSM to perform operations on these objects.
I’ve used it for similar purposes—tracking who owns a notebook, what software is installed, where it’s located, and much more. It helped keep our inventory organized and structured, making it easy to monitor changes and manage resources.
Thanks @Evgenii ! I can see how Assets can work well as a database that can hold valuable information. But for customers that don't have licenses, is there a way to set things up where they can they do as I describe above? Go to our portal, search for objects we entered into Assets, see if they're available during dates needed, and reserve the item so no one else can during the specified time? Do you know of any documentation that can help with setting this up? I haven't found much...

Simple customers will work with this objects from the customer portal. You'll need to create assets custom fields, to select required objects and add them to required customer requests.
All basic information can be found here:

I used this manuals when started to use this functionality.

Hi @Evgenii
Would you be open to work (as it says in your profile) to configure our Jira instance to support equipment rentals, inventory and related reporting?
We currently use Webcheckout.net but are wanting to switch over to a better scalable and contemporary tool. The equipment is mostly tech and IT equipment - including camera gear, music gear, etc., thats need to be asset tracked as well rent out to our students.
Please let me know if interested and we can arrange an online meeting to discuss.
Thank you. Regards, Ali
