How to display issue fileds with Jira Confluence macro on the service portal

Hi

We use our Confluence knowledge base on the customer portal do display information to our users. The users do not have Confluence licence, as they are external people all over the world, only have access to the portal to report issues and to see the knowledge base content.

We do have software releases frequently, and want to put the release log into the knowledge base. To do this, we have a Release notes custom filed for every issue, and I used the Jira macro to simply show up the content of it on the knowledge base. But the users can not see it, they only see an empty table saying no issues found. This would be very nice to work and prevent manual double work.

Is there a way to list the issue filed content somehow on the portal?

Hi @Robert ,

Whether those Jira issues show up to public or not is dependent on the Browse project permission within that specific project.

As you will see in the screenshot below, you have 2 options - a) make the permission public (which I doubt you want to do, because then this project in Jira becomes available on the internet) or b) Use the permission Service project customer - portal access (which I believe, not 100% sure, will show up issues within your JSM knowledge base served through Confluence).

Otherwise the issues in the macro won't be visible for unauthenticated users.

Browse project1.jpeg

If any of these work for you, then problem solved.

If not, then the other option is to create static release notes in Confluence that are not dynamically pulling information from Jira. Then there is no question of Jira permissions, the content will be visible to anyone who can access your Confluence.

PS - You can use our app Automated release notes for Jira to automate this entire thing. And there is a free version, if that suffices your needs.

Best,
Anand

Hi @Anand Inamdar_Amoeboids

Your app looks promising. I think I will give it a try!

Sure, @Robert! here's our release log page in Confluence that is fully automated through ARN. Sharing to give you some ideas!

Hi @Robert ,

The Jira macro follows the permissions of Jira for the displayed issues. This means that in order to see Jira results in the macro on Confluence, the logged in user needs to have "Browse project" permissions for these issues in Jira.

There is an open Suggestion in the Atlassian backlog, you can find it here

For now I'm afraid it is not possible, you might need to look into alternatives like adding a screenshot, copying to plain text.

There are apps that can make the release notes and add the issues as plain text automatically if you want, but it might not be worth the cost.

Hope this helps

Hi @Tessa Tuteleers

Thanks for letting me know. Looks like then the only solution is something described in this article:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Automating-the-creation-of-a-Confluence-page-linked-to-a-Jira/ba-p/1760738

I'm afraid the linked issue for the feature request will not coming very soon :(, so the automation action called "create confluence page" also not really useful at the moment..

Hi @Robert ,

You indeed can create confluence pages from automation, and with the correct issue lookups and making variables you might be able to create what you need.

However, while I have not used the app mentioned by @Anand Inamdar_Amoeboids , it might be interesting to look into it!
Elements Publish is another option for you in the marketplace.
