How to make a field not required in request form?

Hi,

When I select a project and go to project settings and then request form I see that some custom fields are required. When I select the arrow for the drop down and hover over "Required" or "Remove" it will say that Jira service management created this field. You can't change if its required or remove it. I'm a site admin, how do I make the field not required or even some fields required if they are not already? Please explain in detail and step by step.

If I want to make changes to multiple projects and all those projects have the same request form, will making the change in one project affect the others or do I have to go and modify the request form for all projects?

You can make the fields required on the form by clicking the checkbox. But fields like Summary cannot be made optional, hence the informational text when you hover over it. The only thing that you can do with the summary is to hide it and give it a default value. 

No, the request form cannot be shared across multiple project, unless you are using Forms.

I get the above when wanting to click the "Required" checkbox. How do I make the filed optional or not required but still displayed on the request form? I get this on custom field too.

Which field is it? In the case of the summary field you cannot make it optional, and the only thing you can do with it is to hide if from the form by giving it a default value.

Even if it is a custom field it could be a locked field, and based on the message you cannot make it optional. Your only options are to remove the field completely from the screen, hide it and give it a default value, or leave it as is.

@Fahad Akhtar & @Mikael Sandberg  - I had this same issue with a custom field too. It seems that a custom field will show up as a "JSM created field" and unable to be removed or made not required if the Field Configuration is set to "Required". Once I changed it to optional, I could go to the Request Type field configuration screen, remove the "Required" checkbox, and then remove the field.
