Hi @Jelani B.

Can you provide screenshots on what you are referencing to in your instance?

The link you shared contains information on that users instance where they made a custom field called approval.

So don't focus on that field name in that community article.

What user or group field is used in your approval in the workflow?

Hi @Jelani B. ,

Welcome to Atlassian community.

I suggest you to follow the instructions in this tutorial: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/set-up-approvals/

If you have already sett an approval step in the workflow, you can add the approvers field in the screens

I hope it helps

Hi Matteo,

Thank you for your response. I am still having trouble trying to configure this group correctly...

I found a link to what might help me, but I am having a problem on where to find "Configure Custom Fields : Approval"

Here is the link I am referencing...

Hi @Jelani B. ,

The field "Approvers" can be edited from the custom fields section: https://<yoursite>.atlassian.net/jira/settings/issues/fields (search for approvers)

The "Approval" must be configured from inside the workflow, selecting a status:

Thanks again for all of your help !

Hi Matteo,

Thanks for all of your help with this issue. This is all fairly new to me.

This is the issue I am looking at,

I was tasked to reduce the "3 approvers" down to one specific approver.

This is what I see on my side.

Once i click on the " 3 people added to the approvers field" i get this screen

I can limit the number of approvers, but I can't state specifically " this certain user needs to approve this"

Is that possible ?

Hi @Jelani B.

To restrict this, you have multiple options.

  • Set the field Approvers on the Request Type, this field needs to be hidden ( s a default and provided with a user)

Or

  1. Create a new custom field, based on type user.
  2. On the context of the custom field set a default user

Or

  • Create an automation rule that on issue creation sets the required user as the approver
