Linking services to asset objects

Nick Whiteley March 4, 2025

Hi all,

Question: Is it possible to link a service to asset objects in another schema?

Scenario: In our JSM implementation, we would like to populate a set of applications in the OotB services schema (service type = application), and then link each of these applications to corresponding items in a future CMDB assets schema.

Each application in the services schema would be version and implementation agnostic, which should make them fairly versatile. The CMDB schema, on the other hand, will contain all the technical complexity normally associated with a CMDB.

Investigation so far: I'm aware of the Allow others to select objects from this schema checkbox in a schema's General configuration settings. I thought this might be the solution, however I am unable to access this setting for the services schema, as this schema is read-only/locked.

Grateful for any guidance / workarounds on this one, thanks!

HI @Nick Whiteley

Welcome to the community.

In your new schema create an object attribute on your objects to reference to the service objects in the ootb services schema.

This is your way to go as the ootb services schema can't be configured
