Linking text field to database

Sammy Choi February 11, 2020

Hello,

Does anyone know if it's possible to have the short text field pull repopulated names upon typing?

e.g - I would like to prevent my users from entering the wrong client name when creating a ticket. is it possible to link this to a list of existing names that I have stored somewhere? (hubspot, gsheets, etc.)

Hi Petter,

Thanks! The drop down / multiple choice options would be great if I only had a handful of choices to choose from. However, my list is over 100. I was hoping to see if its possible to leverage the small text field and have that be connected into a pre-populated database where you enter in the name and the possible choice(s) would be presented to you.

Is something like that possible?

Hello @Sammy Choi

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Per your description, I believe you are trying to enforce the users in your instance to type the correct name of your clients, which are defined in a list/table you have somewhere. Is that correct?

You can define a select list custom field containing all your clients to make sure your users will always select a valid customer:

Issue custom fields

These would be the steps:

  1. Select the Jira icon (, or ) > Jira settings > Issues.
  2. Under FIELDS, select Custom fields.
  3. Click Create custom field, choosing the type "Select list (Single or multiple choice)"
  4. Add the Select list with all the options/clients you have
  5. Add the Select list to your project screens
