Hello,
we have just started to use Insight (Assets) however currently now to access Insight you need to have a JSM license.
We want to provide some of our users read only access to some of the assets in Insight, without giving them full access with a JSM license.
is this possible?
Our sales and pre-sales teams also need read access to the assets we manage in Jira/JSM. However, it appears that this requires an agent license, which is quite costly given the limited nature of the use case.
Additionally, the recent announcement regarding payment for asset usage beyond 50K assets adds to the confusion. With the current restrictions, it seems like we may end up paying twice: once for the assets themselves and again for the licenses.
Do you know if there are any plans to change this restriction? Specifically, will users with a Jira user license be able to access assets in read-only mode without requiring an agent license?
Thank you in advance for any insights!
As of right now, I am not aware of any plans to be provided by the Atlassian to address your asks.
For Assets - It only comes bundled with JSM subscriptions (Premium or above), but it doesn't mean that Jira Software Application licensed users will also need to be assigned with a JSM agent license to access the Assets schema objects.
I would recommend you to contact Atlassian Support directly for the most updated information - https://support.atlassian.com

I fully understand what you want to reach, as we sometimes have customers with the same requirements.
Out of the box this is not possible. Non JSM users can access data in fields, but can’t access the full assets interface.
How we try to solve these things is to extract data to powerbi and visualise it there.
I know there are some new insight functionalities coming in forms in on the customer portal in the upcoming months, those might help us solve issues like this, but we need to wait to see how the actual functionality will look like.
Kind regards,
Laurens

Hi Danielle:
Can you provide a bit more details/clairification on "read only access" against Insight schema objects? Are you referring of exposing objects against custom JSM fields via the Portal UI?

Hello, I'll try to add some info, regardless if it is late and hard to stay positive about the way the demand for clarification is formulated.
In any company, giving read-only access to the CMDB to all or almost all employees is a common use case. Meaning:
As a CMDB Manager with the role of JSM Agent,
I want to manage Assets via the web interface
So that I can keep our CMDB up to date
As a Regular Employee without the role of JSM Agent
I want to be able to see the Assets via the web interface 3 times a week
So that I can use the codes in my day to day work - outside of the JSM
