×Hi everyone,
Next week we will migrate to the Cloud in Jira.
Background
In the old Jira, you create a ticket and inside you could add a template source to the ticket depending on what type of ticket it is.
this is super handy.
In the new cloud environment when you click on the create button, and create a ticket you do not have an option to select a template.
But if you select apps and then create from template, that works well. But we all know that the staff will be clicking on the create button.
My question:
1. Can we add the template inside the create button maybe an extra step.
2. Could we recode the button to show create from template rather?
Thanks again
Theresa
Hi @Theresa Barnard ,
Jira doesn’t have a built-in way to add templates based on project and issue type. But there are some apps that can help set up templates for the issue create screen.
With Templating.app (I’m the Product Manager, so happy to answer any questions!), you can create templates that automatically fill in the description and other fields, depending on the project, issue type, or even certain conditions like user roles.
This makes sure that when someone clicks "Create," the necessary information is already filled out.
This is how the configuration looks like:
And here's the result if someone creates a bug ticket within the defined projects:
Unfortunately this is not yet possible for Jira Service Management, but as soon as the APIs are available, we'll work on this too.
Hi Sarah,
Thanks so much for your feedback. We purchased the Issue Templates for Jira app by Divinity
Does this worth same?
Or should I rather purchase the one that you suggested?
Kind regards
Theresa

Hi @Theresa Barnard ,
Thanks for reaching out! 😊 Since I'm the Product Manager for Templating.app, I might be a little biased, but I’d love to share why it could be a great fit.
First off, a big thing that sets Templating.app apart is that it’s built on Atlassian Forge. This means all your data stays safe within Atlassian’s infrastructure - we don’t store any customer data ourselves. Plus, we support Data Residency, so you can be confident your data is secure and compliant. For more details, you can check out our privacy and security details.
On top of that, Templating.app is designed to feel like an integrated part of Jira, not a third party app. Setting up templates is super simple, with no complex syntax needed - even if you’re creating templates with complete issue hierarchies and variables. Your team can easily browse all available templates with a handy preview feature.
Templating.app is more than just Issue Templates. It also includes Project Templates and Board Templates, so you can quickly set up new projects and boards just the way you need.
We’re always adding new features based on feedback from users like you and roll out updates regularly. Check out our changelog to see what’s new. Right now, we’re working on a release that includes dynamic issue links and parent issues.
It would be really great, if you give it a try. You can also schedule a call with me via seibert.biz/meetsarah (or just contact me via LinkedIn).
Cheers,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I am going to book a demo so we can see how this app will help us. I think we might have it but we are not using it as it should be.
Thanks again for the great feedback
Kind regards
Theresa

Hi Theresa,
You can't do it using native functionalities. Atlassian doesn't offers templates for issues. Also it's not possible to change how the Create button work.
To create templates for issues which can be applied directly on the Create issue screen, you have to use an app. For example, our app called Issue Templates Agent.
You can book a demo session with our team: calendly.com/appsvio We'll be happy to talk with you about your requirements!

Welcome to the community. You will need a third party add-on to accomplish what you wanted. The behavior of the Create button cannot be changed.
However, take a look at this reference discussion on creating JSM custom request template functionality from Atlassian -
Sorry, hope this still helps.
Best, Joseph Chung Yin
