Adding attachments to email notification

We have 'Send Email' option in automation but alas what use would that be if we can't add the attachment that was also added in a comment?

Has anybody solved this without using a marketplace add-on?

As I understand it this is not supported. I found this earlier post - How-to-add-attachment-file-to-email-via-automation-Smart-fields . There is an open feature request.

Yes I have seen that request but I am looking for anyone who has a workaround.
