We have multiple projects in our Jira Cloud Account that we use for different dept routines, we created automations to send out to the sites and also send us an email when our customers update the ticket.
With the new limits we are finding we are nearing our usage amount of 5000 automations each month and I had a look at the cost to upgrade and more than 50% a month more for the 19 users we have.
Does anyone have any alternatives to the automations, legacy automation doesn't really help and the Customer Notifications don't really give us what we are looking for either.
Given you have requirements that cannot be fulfilled with a native functionality (well it can be you're reaching the usage limits) you might need to look at other apps. (https://marketplace.atlassian.com)
While they still carry a cost, it will be a more limited one and might even provide you with more flexibility.
I've personally used Scriptrunner to execute some smaller/less complex scripts that might fire very often (and thus use up a lot of usage) or something like JSU.
If it's really about email then you could (for example) look at Email This Issue which allows you to handle emails based on triggers and events but again does not have a usage limit.
Other than that, you could try some workarounds like setting someone as a watcher through an initial automation but then let the build in notification scheme take over to send the mails, that could already remove a few executions.

Thanks I'll take a look, we tried Email This Issue and had quite a few issues with it and swapped to the Yasson Microsoft 365 App and it made things so much easier. I'll have a look and see if they have anything available we could utilise before we spend money on a new app.

Look if the rules are really necessary.
Why use automations to sent you as a team an email on update.
As Agents your work is in the system, create a queue where updates issues are show in a certain period or by creating a filter and show the results of the filter on a dashboard.

Marc - we have 5 projects we run in Jira for different areas of the business and only 3 team members that could be jumping between tasks that aren't loaded in to Jira the email notifications allow us to see in our mailbox what ticket has been update and then go and view the ticket to either add a comment or close it off.
