I apologize for the plain question, but I have not been able to find a straight answer or video dictating how this is done.
My organization is looking to move to Jira, and our help desk is really in need of a good asset management system. We have been looking at Jira as an opportunity to hit all birds with a single stone, though we cannot really identify how Jira actually obtains asset information, and what information it is even able to obtain.
Along with this, is Jira able to talk with Dell and HP sites to pull warranty information for each device?
Thank you all!

Ok, there's a long and dull story about how we ended up here, but...
If you are on JSM Premium, then you have access to "Assets" (formerly called "Insight", please forgive people if they say that instead - it's a moderately recent change and we're not all used to it yet)
This module is for Asset management inside Jira, and it does what you expect - lists of items to track, makes the info available to Jira users, and so on.
There is a secondary part to it called "Assets (insight) Discovery". This is software is actually separate to Assets - you run it as a service on your own hardware, it does not run on Cloud. It can scan your network, and generate a pile of data ready to be imported into Cloud's Assets (and automatically import it)
It's complex because you have to run it on your own hardware, inside your network (or ring-fenced AWS, GCP, Azure or other Cloud server providers) and feed the results up to your Cloud Assets.
There's nothing in Jira or Assets that will talk to your warranty providers automatically. But you could script or automate something to do it!
Using Lansweeper for the discovery of your IT/OT/Hybrid assets will solve this problem for you. As part of the Lansweeper scanning engine we are matching against the HW vendor warranty api's warranty details, also End of Life and End of Support details too. And Lansweeper has an integration with Jira, available in the marketplace to bring this asset detail to your issues.
Hope this helped

We actually currently user Lansweeper in our environment, so that may be something to look into. Is there any way you suppose we could integrate our Lansweeper to Jira?

Yes, Assets has import functions - https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/import-a-csv-file-into-insight/
But I'd take a look at the Lansweeper app @Cassandra Lloyd mentioned - https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1229828/lansweeper-app-for-jira?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

Our first integration is to enable you to enrich your issues with LS asset data.
But I wanted to share that we are VERY close to publishing our 2nd integration, Lansweeper app for jira insight and this will be a full CMDB integration. The expected timeline for this to be available in the Atlassian marketplace is March.
Hope this was useful!

Oh wow, that sounds awesome! Will this integration have any additional cost if we already own both Jira and Lansweeper?
And I also wanted to thank you @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- for answering as well, your info was very helpful! We have been looking at Insight, but we were never really given a demonstration on how any of this works. I was unable to find anything online, but your response really gave me a great idea on how it works!

No additional cost from Lansweeper or Jira to use this integration, you just need to be on the cloud version of both :)

Hi, I'm looking to integrate Lansweeper as a data source for the CMDB (Jira Insight)? How do I actually do this?
